Kayla Marie Taylor — is a New York based performer, choreographer, and dance educator. Her focus is majorly in Tap, Hip Hop, and Jazz dance but has spent her life training in all styles. She continues to train in NYC, eager to learn from the knowledgable professors in the dance field.
Having trained with some of the world’s most renowned instructors, including Dormeshia Sumbry-Edwards, Jason Samuel Smith, and Candace Brown. Kayla is currently pursuing a double major in Dance and African American and African Diaspora Studies at Columbia University ('27).
Kayla teaches out of both NYC and the New England area, choreographing new works for dance studios, and teaching classes. Most recently, through Prospect Musical's, Kayla had the opportunity to work with Chloe Davis, associate choreographer for Broadway's Gypsy, etc. for the workshop of "The Oscar Micheaux Project": A New Jazz Musical.
Kayla has co-choreographed for a new workshop production led by Petrazzer Co. titled Footfall. This new work challenging the landscape of what tap dance means in the theatre world, fusing styles of jazz, hip-hop, and contemporary theatre with the experiences of daily life.
Kayla has worked with a variety of performance groups throughout her campus in New York City choreographing and doing work within the University setting to bring student art to the forefront.
Kayla is beginning her producing journey through working with a variety of phenomenal dancers based in NYC to bring her ideas and dancers' experiences to life. She hopes that in the future, her inspiration found within each dancer she highlights within her projects, along with inspiration from masters in the field, will guide her discoveries as a multidisciplinary artist.
Kayla also has experience with artistic directing, and planning for visual media projects.
